The art of using strong words and avoiding weak ones is just one of dozens of aspects of writing an effective resume. The competent structure of the resume, its adaptation to a specific vacancy, the optimal saturation of the resume with keywords, the correct formatting of the text, the readability, and much more are also important.
The strong and weak words in the resume are a good judge of the director of the interregional recruiting company NAVIGATOR Sergey Belyaev, whose research is published by Work.ua.
Strong words
Use these words with caution, without going too far. And do not exaggerate your achievements. Remember that you may be asked to comment on each phrase, provide factual evidence and also verify this data in past jobs. Remember, the quality of using strong words is more important than their quantity.
As a rule, strong words are verbs. And not just verbs, but perfect actions. Use them in the description of your qualifications, work experience and, first of all, in the section “Achievements / results” (this is the most important section of your resume):
created;
achieved (such a result);
developed (concept);
implemented (for example, a program);
initiated;
organized;
fulfilled;
trained (for example, 12 managers);
headed (department);
managed (group);
introduced / launched (in action);
built (system):
supervised;
adapted;
increased / increased (profit);
improved;
solved (problem);
conducted an analysis.
Weak words
On the other hand, there are quite a few words that are either completely superfluous in the text, either require concretization, or simply fill a sore mouth, because they are used in almost every resume and do not carry useful information. Avoid such words and phrases, use synonyms if you cannot refuse them, or specify their meaning with any examples or facts:
Creative
organized;
sociable (in 90% of the resume!);
team player;
extensive experience;
motivated;
responsible;
analytical thinking;
effective;
carried out activities ... (oh, horror!);
assistance;
contributed;
successful;
took part;
engaged in;
ensured compliance.
Work.ua does not insist that the use of the “right” words is a panacea for writing a resume. But everything is important in the search for work, and especially such accents as the “necessary” words in the resume - Work.ua is sure. We wish you a successful selection of words!
